Character Design WIP_Nolan Fletcher

I decided to change my story around. Originally the focal point was this mischievous gnome and the story was from his point of view, but I realized that I didn't quite like that perspective. I'm reworking the story to be told from the perspective of Nolan Fletcher, the character who comes into possession of the gnome.

Story Development WIP Update

The shrill sound of the alarm woke Nolan Fletcher at precisely 7:30AM. It may have been a Sunday, but days should never be wasted. Nolan made a mental checklist as he rose from his bed: shower, teeth, breakfast, reorganize closet, vacuum, and of course, tend to his precious garden.
Sitting at his dining table, Nolan scanned the Sunday Funnies as he slowly munched on his poached eggs and wheat toast. As he gave himself a mental note to cut out the coupon for a discount on Tide, Nolan heard the chime of his doorbell. Opening the front door, Nolan was met with the postman who appeared to be carrying a hefty box. Exchanging a brief "Hello!" Nolan signed for his package and bid the postman a polite goodbye.

The excitement of receiving a gift overwhelmed Nolan with excitement and he tore open the box. Digging through the packing peanuts, he pulled out a card.
Nolan,

Happy Birthday little brother!
I hope this spruces up that garden you're always fussing over.

Nina

A two week belated gift from his sister? Better late than never he supposed; he certainly wasn't one to complain. Rummaging further into the box, Nolan pulled out a gaudy garden gnome. It was without a doubt the most ridiculous thing he'd ever seen. The paint was chipped and the were various cracks cover the little statue. It's the thought that counts he surmised. Staring back at the gnome, Norman contemplated as to whether or not he was actually going to place this....thing in his garden. The odd grin upon the gnomes face gave him the heebie jeebies. Regardless, he was thankful for the gift and found a decent, but not too obvious, spot for the tiny figure.

Rough Character Outline-WIP

Gnomes, odd little statues that have always been meant to decorate ones lawn or garden...at least that's what they have appeared to be. During the day they are simple figures, plastered with goofy grins, but come nightfall, they are sneaky little fellows, frolicking around the gardens in which they dwell. "Borrowing" whatever food they can, they are always cautious of careful to never take too much or show any indication of a disrupted garden. This way of simple living has suited them and there has never been any cause for discourse among the gnome community. But in the midst of this nightly routine, one gnome has found himself growling tired of this predictable lifestyle.

Norman the gnome, often thought of as the scoundrel of the bunch, has found himself growing weary of the boring life being led by his fellow gnomes. His outlandish personality is too big to be contained in such a small lifestyle. In his boredom, he finds himself pranking everyone for his own entertainment. His crude and pestering behavior is quickly becoming a problem amongst his fellow gnomes. As he begins to contemplate about what can be done to invigorate the gnome community, Norman's thoughts begin to take a more devious detour.

The cover of nightfall no longer satisfies Norman and he now finds himself envious those who inhabit the many homes within the neighborhood. Norman is now filled with the urge to do more than just settle for "decorating" the lawn or garden of an insignificant human. With the force of the gnome community, Norman fantasizes about revolting against the "garden freaks" and taking whatever the desire and in due time, he knows he can convince his fellow gnomes to see things his way.

Toll Booth Exercise: Coming Soon....

I'm still fleshing out Normans personality. I feel like I don't quite know him well enough. I've got a vague idea, but it still needs to be solidified.
